Affordable Care Act or "Obama-Care" - this is the law of the land, good or bad.  In a nut shell, first.. CALL ME, second you may be able to receive tax credits that will lower you or your family health insurance cost.  The program has open enrollment dates that are normally Nov-Jan.  There are no health questions so you are guaranteed insurance at standard cost.  Your cost is based on your income and the size of your family for tax filing,  There are 6 income levels based on the national poverty guidelines that will determine your tax credit.  A big mis-conception is that everyone will be able to take advantage of the ACA plans.  Unfortunately if your income is to low or to high based on family tax filing you may not be able to receive the tax credit.  The best way to know is to call Mark and discuss your situation.  We will do all we can to put you in the best health plan available.

Group Insurance - This type of health insurance has specific pros and cons that need to be looked at closely.  If you are a business owner or work for a company that offers health insurance CALL to see how I can low your cost using various options and possible tax credits.  I will be happy to quote your group plan.  I can even offer coverage on a 1 person "group"

For the employee group plans are normally the lowest cost way to have health insurance because the employer is required to pay 50% of premium.  Another upside is in NC you are guaranteed insurable regardless of current health.  The down side is normally you have only one or two options to choose from.  The company plan may not be what you truly need or want.  The other downside is your dependents or family are normally full price unless you work for a very generous company.  Often times it may make sense for the employee to have the group plan but than move the spouse and children to an individual plan.  Doing this may save you a fair amount of money and still allow for good quality health insurance.  Lets talk about what option may be best for you!

Traditional Health Insurance - This type of insurance offers the normal co-pay plans.  Outside of a group plan you will need to qualify for coverage or go into the NC state health plan that cost much more.  If your in good health you want to allow us to shop for a low cost plan.  There are 3 main areas that affect your cost.  First is your doctor visit co-pay, that is what you spend for normal day to day doctor visits, could be $15, 20, 25 30 co pay and than the insurance co. pays the rest.  Second is your prescriptions cost or RX,  This is when you pay $5, 10, 15 for drugs and again the insurance co. pays the balance.  Lastly is the major medical cost.  This is hospital, surgery, major health issues.  The deductible on this may range from 0 to $10,000.  Than there is normally a 70/30 or 80/20 co pay split up to a certain amount, after that the insurance co. pays the balance.  I will be happy to explain this in person based on your needs and budget.

HSA Plans - This is a Health Savings Plan.  These plans offer you the option of choosing an annual deductible that after you meet that the insurance co pays 100% of the medical bills and RX cost.  They also allow you to save money tax free to use for medical expense while you pay the monthly cost.  The HSA is a nice option, the main confusion is that people sometimes think the monthly premium also applies to their deductible.  That is not the case.  Your monthly cost covers the risk of major illness but you are still responsible for your co-pay before the benefit kicks in.

As with any type of insurance you want to consult with an experienced professional that can help explain the best way to go.  We at AKJ would like that opportunity as you explore the best way to protect you and your family.
